Getting Started

Getting Started

Adobe Express is free to use, but you will need an Adobe account to access all of the templates. You can choose to sign up for a student or teacher account if you have a .edu email address. Alternatively, if you’re just interested in Adobe Express’s endless customization possibilities, you can sign up for a free account. To set up a free account, visit the sign-up page and fill out the required information. If you have an existing Adobe ID or a Google ID you want to use, you can log in with that information.

If you’re signing up for an Adobe ID, you need to choose a memorable password. Adobe has some specific password requirements, so make sure to adhere to those rules. When you’re done, click the Continue button, and you’ll be taken to another page where you have to indicate whether you currently work in education or not. Depending on your choice, you’ll either have to click on the text asking if you’re a student or the text stating you’re a teacher, and you’ll then be redirected to the second step of account creation. After that, you can customize your Adobe experience. This includes selecting anything from websites to making podcasts. It may also involve a small survey that helps the service understand what type of creator you are. Answer as honestly as you can. Once you finish customizing your account, click the Continue button. You’ll then have to verify your email before using your Adobe ID. This means checking your email inbox for a verification from Adobe, or, alternatively, signing up with a Google or Facebook account.

And voila! You have successfully created your Adobe ID with a few simple steps. You can now explore all Adobe products with their respective features. Just take note that some features may be locked behind the Premium trial. If you want the all-access pass, you can sign up for a Premium account by providing your payment details.

Navigating the Interface

An amazing poster can be created using the AI poster maker in minutes with the help of ready-made templates. Other features of the maker are a clean user interface and intuitive navigation. When you open the tool, you will see the following layout:

  1. On the left, the template tab displays various vertical and horizontal layout options. When you click a template, it will slide in.
  2. You will see a preview of your poster in the middle. This is where you can drag objects in, create a layout, and style each object.
  3. On the right, the object and styling tabs enable you to modify uploaded images, elements, text, and the background color.
  4. On the top left corner, the logo takes you back home.
  5. At the top, you have options to share, preview, and publish your work.
  6. To the top right, you have tool options to undo and redo your last action, close the tool, and change the display.

The tool provides easy navigation options to get to anything you need. To create a poster in the Poster Maker, select the “Poster” option in the Ad and Poster section for "Create New" or enter the keyword "poster" in the search bar at the top. You can also use pre-set poster sizes and templates in the "Custom Size" section. The Poster Maker saves templates you have used recently under the "Recent" section. In this tutorial, we will help you navigate the tool and introduce you to features that we haven't seen before.

Inputting Prompts for Customizable Templates

To create a design, you input a prompt in a text field with enough detail as to inform the software to create the design with favorable results. In this way, you are not designing the final product by crafting a graphic design, but you are creating the blueprint for the final product. The quality of the prompt is what makes a difference between a good design and an excellent one that manages to captivate the audience. It is in this stage where most users will report difficulties. Prompt generation is a crucial element of generative AI tools. The prompt is to the generative tool what the description is to the traditional artist. It is essential, during the process of generating the prompt, to briefly clarify each aspect that you want to appear in the design you want to create. Each aspect you clarify will improve the result, since generative AI tools commonly tend to fill the empty spaces in the prompts.

Exploring Template Options

Explore and explore under five categories: Popular, Posters, Promotions, Social Posts, and Branding. The Popular category displays adaptable template layouts, along with a large selection of customizable graphics, stickers, and designs. The Posters category includes templates for several types of posters: event posters, advertising department posters, concert posters, travel posters, and restaurant menus. The Promotions category is a collection of flyers used for promoting an event, party, product, or sale, and brochures used for promoting an event, business, or service. The Social Posts category displays posts. This is a collection of branding and company visual identity kits containing logos and social media kit templates, such as animated logos or logos on business cards. The branding category also includes business card and letterhead templates and those for building a company social media presence. Thus, AI Poster Maker presents a huge range of customizable templates, from one-off event posters and advertising flyers to company branding kits. Exploring the Template Options Once you have a grasp of how to input prompts that generate customizable AI Poster templates, also take some time to explore the preset options located at the top of the page. Here are a few key points to note as you browse.

  • There are five categories of templates: Popular, Posters, Promotions, Social Posts, and Branding.
  • Both customizable graphics and poster templates are displayed in the Popular category, which is organized to make it easy for you to find popular and trending premade designs.

The poster templates in this section will be faster to edit than those in the template categories. Just click to edit the design.

Customizing Your Poster

Congratulations on completing your first poster! But hold on. It looks like you have left some parts of it to be customized. Now let’s jump into the actual editing part. Once you open your poster from your dashboard, there are four different sections where you can work on customizing it: Text and Fonts, Images and Visuals, Colors and Layouts, and Other Additions. Let’s dive deeper into each of them.

  • Editing Text and Fonts. Editing the text in a poster that someone else has created for you is fun! You will see that the fonts, text color, and font color might be different from the original. But you can always edit the fonts by clicking on them. A new editor will pop up on the top of the poster, just above the poster canvas, which allows you to change the font, color, size, orientation, effects, and alignment. You can also create a new text box here.
  • Incorporating Images and Graphics. If you need to add anything more than text, you will need to check out the Elements section in the left toolbar. The Elements area is where you can find thousands of images, icons, stickers, shapes, and other graphic-related elements to add flair to your poster. You can also upload your own images, and those will appear under the Uploads section. Once you have added the graphics, a new editor will pop up on the top of the poster as before. You can change the size, position, angle, and transparency of the graphic by using the editor.
  • Adjusting Colors and Layouts. Now that you are done editing the text and images, you can customize the color palettes and layout if you want. The Color section contains some color palettes that you can choose to apply to your poster, but you can always create your own palette. The Layout section recommends different layouts that actually help position the graphics and text in a better way.

Conclusion

Creating posters or any other graphic design project can be exciting and empowering because they are meant to be enjoyed by the public. But they can also be stressful if you think about every aspect of the poster: color, typography, images, shapes and icons, space and alignment — the list can go on. In this class, we’ve explored Adobe Express’s AI Poster Maker feature and several other complementary features that allow you to take care of some of these aspects stress-free.

And all of that is just a starting point. Although we only covered magic features in this article, you can personalize your design even further using the built-in tools available in Express’s web or app versions. If you’re feeling inspired, feel free to explore! You can create as many variations as you want until you find that perfect combination of colors, visuals, font combinations and compositions you’re looking for. And remember to share your design so other creators can be inspired by your work too. To share, just tap or click on the share icon at the top right, select the option you prefer — share link for online purposes or export for offline sharing — and choose the proper privacy settings. If you need help, reach out or discuss in the brainstorming section of the course. Ready to create your own professional-looking poster in seconds? Let’s get started!
